Quality mental health care made accessible.

Speaker at the 21st International Conference of the International Association of Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy -IARPP, 2025
Grateful to to be part of an Ethics Panel, along with Dr Micha Weiss, a senior clinical psychologist and supervisor from Tel-Aviv, member of the board of directors of IARPP, and member of the Ethical Committee of the Israeli Psychological Association. senior clinical lecturer at Colman Academic Institute and he teaches Ethics and Relational Psychoanalysis, and leads various experiential workshops that deal with the Ethical Presence of the psychoanalytic therapist. He has written various papers, among them 'Ethical Presence in the Psychoanalytic Encounter and the Role of Apology' (AJP, 2018).
and Rex Kintanar, a Filipino American psychologist in private practice in New York City, a Candidate in the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis, and an Adjunct Supervisor at the Danielsen Institute at Boston University.
What it was about-
Our panel sought to bring out the grey-er , nuances of relational injuries between a patient and therapist often ignored owing to its complex and private aspects- therefore not studied enough and understood enough. These injuries demand individual attention, since they are different from the harsher ethical breeches which are more black or white, therefore more familiar to all and often addressed in training and supervision.
Discussion was around how one can own this in their practice and work through such painful ruptures that a patient might experience from the hands of the therapist, not because of a skill deficit, incompetency, ethical violation from the therapist's end, but more cause he/she is human.
This might make in fact make the work more real-er and transformative if embraced and alchemized right.
Discussion points were around the how and what of the same.

I had the privilege of speaking on the Archetype of the Wounded healer: Implications of the Inner Lives and Emotional Wounds of Helping Professionals, on May 11th , 2025 to a wonderful group where we spend time reflecting on explore why each of them became a healer and how to authentically embrace that role.
Briefly the wounded healer archetype, from the myth of Chiron, suggests healing comes from personal pain. Our histories and life circumstances shape our choice of work, influencing it both positively and negatively. This conversation was trying to capture a succinct picture of its influence in the healers journey.

As India's mental health needs become demands, we are seeing various responses to this, like mental health platforms, app based solutions and attempts by RCI/UGC to create more courses and professionals that might end up diluting the passing criteria and therefore the quality of care. Conversations on access often revolve on number of seats, number of mental health professionals, lack of insurance or unaffordable treatment, and while these are true, what are some internal barriers that stop us from seeking help and changing, even when access barriers are removed? These are also important to reflect on so that holistic solutions can be identified.

In 2021, I had the privilege to be part of the learning space at TISS, Mumbai, India.
As part of their Post Graduate Diploma in Supervision for Mental Health Practice, they had invited my group supervisor -Mr Anando Chatterji, to conduct a workshop on Psychodynamic Supervisory Practice. Anando being Anando, decided to make it experiential, and took all of us along to cocreate that learning space.
What happened after, led to this publication in the 95th issue,
March 2022, Group Analytic Society International.
If you a psychotherapist, who is interested in receiving, giving supervision, or generally someone intrigued about group analytic supervison spaces you might find this an interesting read.
